Carts pulled by a tugger or "trains of carts" offer an alternative material handling solution from the traditional forklift method. In many situations, carts can carry more material in one run and can deliver the material to a work cell faster.
See for yourself.

Consider these additional facts:
- A typical configuration for a lean material handling system includes one tugger and two to three carts. Each cart can carry the same dunnage as a forklift. Thus, a three cart system carries three times the dunnage of a forklift.
- A forklift has to travel back and forth on the same route three times to deliver the same dunnage that a tugger and a three cart train can deliver in one route.
- Another interesting fact, the total cost of ownership of a tugger and two 3-cart trains is 60% less than the cost of ownership for one forklift.

Building a forklift alternative program requires a significant amount of planning. Macro issues such as personnel, parts presentation and logistics need to be evaluated and adjusted to accomodate a material handling process which limits forklift use to red zones.
